Augmented Reality (AR)
​
AR is being increasingly used by a number of different companies, whether you want to picture a sofa in your new living room using the IKEA app or just want to play the game Pokemon GO, these are both apps that will open up your phones camera and place objects, in a desired section in your own space, onto your phones screen, creating an immersive environment.
​
AR is not to be confused with artificial intelligence (AI), which enables computer applications to mimic human-like intelligence, such as ChatGPT. However, AI can be used in conjunction with AR, such as personalising the experience further.

Virtual Reality (VR)

VR uses computer technology to create a stimulated environment. Although it may seem rather recent that VR is becomingly increasing popular with headsets being launched and the talk amongst VR gaming increasing, VR originally dates back to the 1960s.
​
It's not just gaming that VR headsets are used for, but they also have become increasingly popular with children who use them in a way to switch off from everyday life - to feel a sense of escapism.
VR is also being used by companies in regards to training their staff, before applying them to real life scenarios

Mixed Reality (MR)
MR is a combination of both physical and digital worlds. Essentially, it is a new and upcoming technology that blends both VR and AR together.

MR has been brought to life in a relatively new headset that Microsoft released, the Microsoft HoloLens. The headset cameras constantly map the users environment and your own physical space can be brought to life digitally (i.e. your living room is a scene of the game).
